Short Depth of Field:

In this image titled “Muscle man contestant, N.Y.C.” a bodybuilder is photographed while posing. He his centered on the stage. the image is not perfect but appears as symmetrical to the eye. The photo being short DOF contributes a sense of focus to the image by having the bodybuilder be the center of focus. The crowd in the background is blurry.

Long depth of field:

In this image taken by Diane Arbus titled “An empty movie theater, N.Y.C.” a movie theatre is photographed obviously. The photo is taken from the left row of the movie theatre. The angle from which the photo is taken adds a cool look and pattern to the seats. The image uses long depth of field to show all of the image in detail both in the foreground and background.

  1. It’s interesting that you selected two performance spaces, one live and one film. In the top the depth of field is shortened by darkness and focus. Good observations.
