LUAG Street Photography A

This particular photograph, titled Mayan Flower Seller, photographed by Todd Webb in 1962, shows a woman carrying a basket of flowers in her hand while she carries her youngest child on her back and her other children are by her side. Everyone else is blurred and the focus is on her multitasking, finding a way to feed her family by selling flowers on the street while taking care of them at the same time. I chose this piece because it shows the sacrifices mothers make for their children and the extent that they will go to ensure that their children have a decent life, something that the children in the photos are too young to understand. It inspires me because my mother also had to make sacrifices, and knowing everything she has done for me makes me want to work harder to let her know that all of the sacrifices she has made were not made for nothing and that I am grateful for her and my father for always putting me and my siblings first.
