This photograph depicts a person being carried away, likely against their will, into a doorway that’s so bright the viewer cannot make out what’s on the other side of it. This photograph makes the viewer uncomfortable, & it does a great job portraying the near-horror-movie-like uneasiness of a ward such as Ward 81. In addition, the choice to keep the border on this photograph makes it feel more like a piece of evidence than an artistic photograph, which I think works in this photograph’s favor. I feel as if this photo excels due to its mysteriousness; the viewer isn’t aware of why they’re being dragged away – all they know is they’re trying to escape their fate.
