First Image
Creator: Robert Capa
Date: 1936
Location: Spain
This photograph is significant in terms of record because it is thought to be the first photograph of someone dying during the war. The image was taken during the Spanish Civil War and depicts a Spanish Republican militiaman falling down wounded on the Córdoba front line.
Second Image
Creator: Sebastiao Salgado
Date: 1991
Location: Kuwait
Sebastiao Salgado shot this photograph in 1991, 30 days after the Iraq war ended while visiting the Greater Burhan Oil Field. The oil wells in Kuwait had been set ablaze by withdrawing Iraqi soldiers and were still blazing. His employment is plainly difficult and in horrible conditions. As poisonous fluid showers down on them and their personal protective equipment is soaking with oil, their bodies strain under the strain.
