Series

These series are all inspirational, but there is one series in particular that caught my eye and has inspired me to go in a particular direction for my own book. I am referring to Then They Came for Me; Incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II by Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, and other photographers. This caught my eye and was inspirational because of how this series shows a message of social injustice oof the incarceration of people with Japanese descent, whether they were American citizens or not. These photographers show the papers that instruct for them to be incarcerated and even had a picture of Japanese children with the American flag. These photos in particular are especially inspiring because it appeals to the emotions of the audience, showing the children’s innocence being taken away from them due to this mass incarceration. This has inspired me to do a book series of gentrification. Although it is not the same as the mass incarceration of those of Japanese ancestry, it is still the displacement of people from their respective homes and it is a social issue that is looked past and not discussed often enough.
