Bodies of Knowledge

Daniel Paashaus, Aeneid, (Bound Suspension), 2011 digital print on Fuji professional archival color paper, ⅓

The depth of field in this photograph is long, and it is a powerful choice because there is only one main subject in the picture, and there are no background subjects, so there is no need for a shorter depth of field, but also it emphasizes the sole subject more. In terms of the angle, the straight angle allows for the sole chaotic part of the photograph being the man tied up in rope. The framing is also powerful because the photo was cut to portray the full body and a little bit of the rope, but not a lot to, again, make the focus on the subject who is tied by a rope. The title of the photograph is called Bound Suspension, and although it is unknown what the content is, the subject being without clothes on in a rope leaves room for a lot of interpretation, but any interpretation would be a powerful message pertaining to life and its boundage.
