This photograph was taken with a lens that allows a long depth of field. Because of this, almost everything in the photo (the wall, shadow, shoe, garage, and the street on the other side) is focused. The shadow to the left is focused, the person waving at something. You can see the alley in the back, showing a metal fence and empty street. It is a source of light within the dark garage. It is a great contrast to the lighter part of the picture to the left.
