I chose this photograph because when I saw it, it brought such a warm feeling into my heart. This portrait is effective, because for me, it gives me a feeling of nostalgia. Judith Joy Ross was able to capture a very true and loving moment between a grandfather and grandchild, a relationship that many people are lucky to have one of the same. The connection between the two subject – past their obvious physical touch – really shines from the looks of their faces, and has created a beautiful moment. This portrait is alsO effective because of the amazing use of short depth of field. The subjects are so clearly shown in this photo while the entire background is just a blur behind them. This really adds to the highlight of the subject’s hug and love shown for each other.
