Montage Journal

On November 13th and 15th, I dedicated my time to capturing the essence of my leopard geckos’ bio-active terrariums, amassing approximately one hundred pictures. The initial day focused on two of my geckos undergoing shedding, prompting my return on the 15th to document the completion of this process. The photo session encompassed three distinct terrariums, and I utilized an LED light to accentuate the vibrant colors of both the geckos and the surrounding foliage. Over the course of an hour, I meticulously photographed various elements within their enclosures.

Subsequently, on November 18th, I transferred the extensive collection of images to my laptop, organizing them into a dedicated file. Two days later, on November 20th, I meticulously selected 22 images, proceeded to edit them in Camera Raw, and then uploaded them into Photoshop. The ensuing creative process involved the critical task of determining which elements to retain and integrate into a visually compelling montage.

Engaging in meticulous layer masking and file naming, I embarked on a preliminary draft of the layer masks. The following week, on November 27th, I added drop shadows to enhance depth and dimensionality. Further refining the composition, I introduced additional layers to the image, strategically placing each element to create a more authentic and realistic scene. Throughout this intricate process, each layer in Photoshop was diligently named, ensuring a structured and organized workflow.
