Ernesto, Montage Journal

Montage Journal

11/20

-This marks the start of the journal. I took quite a bit of photos today and the day before. They are pictures of plants and trees at different times of the day: dawn, midday, dusk, so far. I am planning to do some sort of surrealist arrangement, so I have currently have some dusk/dawn shots with tree trunks bordering the montage.

11/24

-Took more photos.  Close shots of plants rocks, trees, etc. All shot in the backyard of a house. There is a creek in the back too, so I took some photos of that.

11/26

-Changed the premise of the montage. Oops! The other one wasn’t giving much in terms of inspiration, and I got bored of that attempt, truthfully. I think it could have been cool! Just don’t know how to proceed with the rest of the photos I have. Maybe I’ll finish it for fun some other time.

Experimenting today. My aunt and uncle have these clay wind chimes with different shapes hanging from it, just took a picture of a clay sun. I’m using a layer mask of just that sun, then overlaying that mask over some other photos. Not sure how I want to arrange it yet though. I also put these images with different blending modes, and I want to experiment with that, as well as scale and arrangement.

Currently, I still plan to use the photos I took from before. Still nature-focused, but I’m feeling better with this one.

11/29

-I have continued to add more photos. I’ve got lichen, grass, burnt wood, fields, close up shots of leaves, a cactus, and quite a few more! I’ve been experimenting with how the photos blend together. I aim to get a variety of effects. Either way, all of my photos have been added! It’s all a matter of composting now. I’ve made sure to use a wide variety of not only subjects, but also the colors that they present. Makes for fun experimentation. I moved the sun off and down to the left; rule of thirds after all. Prof. Chupa talked about printing the piece on lenticular paper. Could be cool to make a personal print of it!

12/1

-So far, I feel pretty good about the montage! Played a bit with adjustment layers, but with the way I have it now, I personally feel it is complete! All my photos “orbit” around the sun, and I wanted to play with the idea of including pictures of whatever the sun “touches.” Some parts look like paint splatters and flares of light, and others are clearly images of flora.
